We are proud to share promising signs of ecological restoration within the sustainable RioSierra Agroforestry Systems (SAF) in Colombia.
A recent milestone showcases this progress: the sighting of a deer on a coffee farm that has adopted these agroforestry practices. This event is a testament to the return of native wildlife and the growing biodiversity in the region, underscoring the effectiveness of our sustainable initiatives.

Our Habitat: The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta
The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site in 1979, is a biodiversity hotspot and the home of four Indigenous communities. Located in northern Colombia, the Sierra spans Magdalena, La Guajira, and Cesar. This vital ecosystem is key to both cultural heritage and environmental health.
Sustainable Coffee Farming in the Sierra Nevada
Farmers from the cooperatives allied with RioSierra embrace the unique biodiversity of their surroundings as a cornerstone of their agricultural practices. Many are now investing in agroforestry systems that prevent soil degradation, preserve forests, and enhance coffee productivity.
In addition to coffee, these farmers diversify their efforts by cultivating cacao and producing honey. Their daily activities focus on fostering healthy ecosystems while securing their livelihoods. By planting trees to maintain an ideal microclimate and participating in Payment for Environmental Services (PES) programs, they are incentivized for their reforestation and ecological restoration work.
One such initiative is the C-BOSAR carbon project, enabling farmers to improve forestry and agronomic practices, integrate trees into their farming systems, and boost productivity alongside biodiversity.
Together, we continue to strengthen the ecological balance in the region, creating a healthier environment for both communities and nature.
