Local Impact - the Kuska Coffee Project in Peru

We are delighted to share the latest developments from the Kuska project, where sustainability, community support, and infrastructure improvements are transforming the coffee, cacao, and honey sectors in southern Peru.

Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

Kuska focuses on reducing environmental impacts through solid waste management at its Dry Mill and efforts to address climate change. A new carbon footprint program set to launch in 2025 will enable the purchase and sale of carbon credits, complementing ongoing reforestation projects and initiatives to enhance coffee productivity through sustainable fertilizers. While the reforestation efforts are in the early stages, they are expected to significantly improve biodiversity and ecosystem health.

Empowering Local Producers

Through its Land Use program, Kuska supports COCLA’s partner cooperatives by providing financial assistance and technical resources, including loans to strengthen coffee collection during harvest. Upgrades in milling equipment have also enhanced product traceability and quality, ensuring coffee meets the highest international standards and bolsters trust in global markets.

Risk-reduction measures, such as preventing contamination and minimizing dust emissions, further benefit producers and ensure superior product quality while promoting a cleaner, safer environment.

Modernized Infrastructure

Recent investments include maintenance and re-roofing of COCLA’s milling facilities, the addition of new offices and a coffee quality control laboratory, and the installation of CIMBRIA-branded dry milling equipment. A 10 KG Toper coffee roaster for agro-industrial operations has also been added. These upgrades are expected to boost productivity and elevate coffee quality in the upcoming harvest season.

A Vision for the Future

Kuska’s initiatives aim to restore customer trust and solidify its position as a leader in sustainable value chains for coffee, cacao, and honey. By combining environmental stewardship with operational excellence, the project continues to create lasting value for producers, consumers, and ecosystems alike.

We remain committed to advancing sustainable practices and look forward to keeping you updated on our progress. Thank you for your support in fostering a brighter future for the coffee industry.
