Aroma Café y Miel: Progress in Honduras

We are happy to share exciting updates on the Aroma Café y Miel project managed by Ecotierra (our parent company), a dynamic initiative supported by the Urapi Sustainable Land Use Fund, in collaboration with 12 cooperatives in Honduras and the Canadian NGO SOCODEVI. Since 2022, this venture has been focused on creating significant, sustainable growth in the coffee and honey sectors, and we are now seeing progress.

State-of-the-Art Processing Facility

One of the key achievements has been the establishment of our high-efficiency coffee processing plant. This facility is designed to boost the entire coffee supply chain by enhancing coffee preparation for export. As a sustainable plant with cutting-edge capabilities, we are confident it will elevate both the quality and yield of the coffee we produce.

We are particularly excited to announce that the Cimbria Selector has arrived in Honduras and will soon be installed in our facility. This advanced technology will help ensure that the integrity of the coffee is preserved, enhancing the overall quality. The system’s six modules will allow us to efficiently and accurately separate coffee beans, offering sustainable yields and better conditions for our coffee.

Licensing and Certifications

In terms of licensing, we are moving forward rapidly. The export license from IHCAFE is in its final stages, and we expect to complete the documentation next week. By mid- to late October, we anticipate having the license in hand, allowing us to begin coffee exports.

On the certification front, we are actively working towards securing Fair Trade (FT), Fair Trade Organic (FTO), Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS), and Rainforest Alliance (RFA) certifications. We are on track to have these certifications in place by December, ensuring our processing plant meets global sustainability and ethical standards.

general shareholders meeting with the 9 cooperatives that are part of Aroma Café y Miel (ACM).

Last week, we held our first general shareholders meeting with the 9 cooperatives that are part of Aroma Café y Miel (ACM). Ecotierra's CEO, Etienne Desmarais, was in attendance, and we addressed key topics crucial to the success of the upcoming 2024-25 campaign. These included capital funds for the cooperatives and sustainable land use strategies for the benefit of their producers. We also toured the facilities where our state-of-the-art machinery will be housed.

Securing Quality Coffee for Our Partners

We’re also excited to report that we have already secured more than 30 export contracts, guaranteeing high-quality coffee for our clients. This is a significant milestone, as it enables us to provide fairer prices to the cooperative members who are the heart of our operation.

With a full team in place, ready and prepared, we are eager to begin this coffee campaign. Our commitment remains focused on delivering top-tier, sustainably produced coffee while ensuring fair and ethical practices at every step of the process.

We look forward to continuing this journey with you, providing transparency and excellence every step of the way.
